COVID-19 hit hospitality and tourism the hardest and the sector is now a third of the size it was before the pandemic.

It could have been even worse if the Government had not decided to introduce lower rates of VAT for hospitality and tourism. Many of our favourite venues, restaurants and destinations were able to survive – just!

However, VAT is due to rise back up to 20% in April 2022. A failure to act could risk the future of hotels, cafes, pubs and restaurants across the country. That is why we’re calling on the Chancellor Rishi Sunak to commit to introducing a permanent low rate of VAT for hospitality & tourism in his Autumn Budget on 27th October.

A permanent low rate of VAT will help keep prices down and level up UK jobs. It will foster investment in the hospitality and tourism places you visit in your local area and elsewhere across the country. It will help accelerate our recovery from the pandemic.

HOW A LOW RATE OF VAT WILL BENEFIT YOU

Keep prices down

Supporting a permanent low rate of VAT now will reduce the potential for price rises that could follow a return to a 20% rate of VAT next year. A permanent low rate of VAT reduction has the potential to save consumers money when they eat out, visit an attraction or book a break. A thriving hospitality industry creates competition which keeps prices affordable in the long term.

Greater choice on the high street

With a permanent low rate  VAT, businesses can have confidence to invest and grow, opening new venues and providing different and diverse hospitality experiences for consumers to enjoy.

Support your favourite venues

It’s been an incredibly tough period for hospitality. But now, just as pubs and restaurants are getting back on their feet, a VAT rise scheduled for next year risks knocking them down and out for good.

Let’s lock VAT in at 12.5% permanently and show our support for one of Britain's best-loved institutions: the local pub/hospitality venue.
